Speech and language technologies have always had an important relationship with their corresponding animated characters. These technologies provide them with new capabilities that improve the interface between them and the end users. The users can interact with animated agents using the common language. An important community of scientists worldwide is developing and evaluating visual humans embedded in spoken language systems. These systems provide a great variety of services in very different scenarios.
