In Spain, in recent decades, the deaf community has actively advocated for the recognition of its natural language and linguistic rights, achieving a pivotal milestone in its quest for equality and inclusion. This movement, underpinned by the consistent visibility of the community's unique needs and circumstances, culminated in the enactment of Law 27/2007, which officially recognized Spanish Sign Language (LSE) and Catalan Sign Language (LSC) as the languages of the deaf community. This legislative framework not only legitimized SLs but also represented a foundational step toward safeguarding the linguistic rights of deaf individuals in Spain.
