This paper describes ‘Opening University Education to Deaf People in Viet Nam Through Sign Language Analysis, Teaching and Interpretation,’ a project begun in 2000 that has provided Deaf adults in Viet Nam with their first opportunity to access higher educational programs taught in Vietnamese sign languages and written Vietnamese. This paper describes the development and implementation of the project, the components of the project including the curriculum used in the certicate programs in sign language analysis and sign language teaching and the impact on adult Deaf students and their families. Appendices show how other countries in the region can establish similar programs at total approximate annual cost of U.S. $50,000 for a program of 30- 40 Deaf adults.
