The field of signed language interpreting studies has evolved through different research paradigms and is being done by researchers with different positionalities. As we will argue here, the field has also evolved from micro-level perspectives on interpreted interaction, to include discussions about interpreters' professionalism at a meso-level. However, a perspective addressing SLI services as a public service interacting with other public services, still seems to be in its infancy.
