This text presents a discussion of some of the different functions that folklore serves within the community. The author examines the concept of "sign play" and presents a number of traditional forms from within the Deaf community - legends, jokes, skits, tall tales, and slurred name signs. Finally the text demonstrates that folklore serves to provide avenues for creative expression and to validate the worth of the group and their culture.
