Our starting point is a cognitivist approach, in which linguistic change must be studiedsimultaneously in the phonological pole and in the semantic pole. Metaphor is often theresource that speakers use to make their language more efficient, and for this reason it is to beexpected that it might be behind the processes of linguistic change and grammatization.
