Multiple factors, both internal and external, can predict and enhance human performance. Naturally this holds true for signed language interpreters, however to date the predictive valueof various factors has been unknown, or investigated only in a limited fashion in signedlanguage interpreters. Yet, the capacity to accurately determine aptitude for interpreting; toevaluate ability and measure competent performance; and to understand the factors that impacton acquisition of the interpreting skill and interpreter performance, potentially affects theachievement levels and outcomes for students of interpreting, and practicing interpreters. Thisin turn impacts on a community of users requiring access to effective signed languageinterpreting services.
