Bilingualism is one of the most important areas of development in the field of deafness today. As the linguistic description and knowledge of sign languages has improved, the realisation that deaf people might achieve a full bilingualism has grown. Although deaf esducation has often been seen as separate and unique, it has become clear that the vast experience of bilingual education in spoken language has a great deal to offer to those working with deaf children. This book represents a sharing of ideas from these fields and an explanation of future possibilities.
