One afternoon at Gallaudet University, as the three of us shared our stories about working overseas, Rowena and Arlinda talked about gathering data in Deaf communities. Upon meeting Deaf people, they both had discovered an instantaneous “Deaf connection” where people insisted, “You Deaf. Me Deaf. Same-same.” To the delight of both, this initial Deaf bond facilitated the cooperation of and collaboration with Deaf stakeholders and made data collection a breeze.
