Visual artist Christine Sun Kim is a deaf person living in a world of sound. In this video, she walks us through her experience of a world made for the hearing, and invites us into the culture of ASL (American Sign Language).

Through her work as a painter and musician, Christine illustrates the profound connection between music and sign language, and urges us to rethink the ways that we view “social currency” as something specifically for the hearing. With sound as her new medium, Christine remarkably discovered how ASL could become a piece of visual music.
