Although increased use of ASL in educational settings has been reported as a consequence of thirty years of research, there has been no confirmation of such use. A survey of teachers of 4.500 hearing-impaired students selected at random from a data base on more than 50.000 such students provides empirical evidence that ASL is still not extensively used in theaching.
