Causal constructions are structures in which the verbs refer to a causative situation be-tween two events. Typologically, these structures can be distinguished in three groups:lexical, morphological and syntactic causatives. This work presents preliminary datashowing that Italian Sign Language (LIS) displays all the typological categories of causatives.Additionally, we show that syntactic causatives in LIS can be mono-clausal or bi-clausaland we propose a formal analysis for them. Finally, we show that causative structures inLIS can also be expressed using an independent non-manual component. This strategyis an instance of syntactic causation.
