3.1. Current legislation
This section of the GramLSE describes the status of Spanish Sign Language (LSE) from the perspective of international and national legislation.
The first subsection (3.1.1. International legislation) reviews relevant mentions of sign languages by the United Nations and the European Parliament.
The second subsection (3.1.2. State and regional legislation) examines how laws in Spain, both at the state and regional levels, address LSE. In Spain, LSE has legal recognition (Law 27/2007), yet it is not considered an official language of the State.
Each subsection includes a recommended bibliography addressing the legal status of sign languages. The CNLSE website provides access to all legislation regarding sign languages, including regulations related to linguistic and cultural rights, at the international, state, and regional levels.
